Seoul Seeks 'Travel by Land' for inter-Korean Summit

South Korea plans to request North Korea to make it possible for President Roh Moo-hyun to travel to Pyongyang by land for the inter-Korean summit at the end of the month.

Seoul's Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung told a regular news briefing Thursday that the government plans to ask Pyongyang to allow Mr. Roh and his delegation to travel by land, possibly using the Gyeongui Line.

The inter-Korean railway was reconnected a few years ago but wasn't tested until May 17th this year.

The South Korean government is reportedly pushing for the plan, although the minister said that nothing has been decided on transportation arrangements.

Former President Kim Dae-jung flew directly to Pyongyang over the West Sea for the first inter-Korean summit in 2000.
