NK Military Protests to US on Drill

The North Korean military has reportedly protested to the U.S. over its staging of the Ulchi Focus Lens (UFL) military drill with South Korea later this month.

The North's Korean Central Broadcasting Station says that during colonel-level contacts with the U.S. on Friday at the inter-Korean truce village of Panmunjeom, the North Korean military lodged its protest in a written statement.

The statement said that the U.S. should take full responsibility for the drill's effect on the six-way talks and February's nuclear dismantlement agreement. But it did not directly mention the inter-Korean summit.

At six-way and inter-Korean talks, Pyongyang has demanded that Seoul and Washington stop conducting the exercise. The latest move is seen as an effort to underscore the North's stance ahead of the upcoming inter-Korean summit.

Ulchi Focus Lens will run from August 20th to the 31st.
