'Gov't Postpones Drill for Successful Summit'

The presidential office says the government has postponed an annual military drill until after the inter-Korean summit to create a favorable atmosphere for the upcoming meeting out of consideration for North Korea.

Presidential Spokesman Cheon Ho-seon told a regular news briefing Monday that there was no official request from Pyongyang for the postponement, however.

The Defense Ministry announced earlier in the day that an outdoor military mobilization drill known as "Hwarang," which requires the massive mobilization of troops and military equipment, was postponed until after September.

Cheon added, however, that the annual Korea-U.S. joint military drill Ulchi Focus Lens will take place as scheduled.
