Working Group on Denuclearization Opens in China

A six-party working group on North Korea’s denuclearization has opened in Shenyang, China Thursday for two days.

Top nuclear negotiators of the two Koreas, the United States, China, Russia and Japan will focus discussions on the list of nuclear weapons and materials North Korea must declare as part of second-phase nuclear dismantlement measures under the February 13th six-party agreement.

Earlier on Wednesday, the nation’s top nuclear envoy Chun Yung-woo met with his U.S. counterpart Christopher Hill and discussed the issue of setting a deadline for the North’s nuclear disablement and technical measures for Pyongyang’s denuclearization.

After talks with Chun, Hill said the working group meeting is expected to proceed smoothly as the talks are seeking to stipulate the concept of nuclear disablement rather than seeking a tangible agreement.
