Gov’t to Send Flood Aid to North Korea

The government is considering sending aid to North Korea as the country struggles to deal with serious human losses and property damage due to recent flooding.

A government official said that, after consulting the National Red Cross, Seoul would first send emergency relief goods including clothes, blankets, flour, instant noodles, medicine and other necessities which do not require negotiations with Pyongyang.

Sources said that Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung will announce on Friday the government's plan to provide flood relief to North Korea.

Meanwhile, the government will brief an emergency meeting of civic organizations on inter-Korean cooperation on the extent of the damage and the North's humanitarian aid needs.
