UN Calls for Urgent Flood Relief Aid to NK

The United Nations says that North Korea urgently needs relief aid in the wake of its worst flooding in 40 years.

The world body’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that officials from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Program and the World Health Organization visited flood-damaged areas on Tueday at Pyongyang's invitation to assess how much aid was needed.

Meanwhile, U.N. spokeswoman Michele Montas noted that UNICEF was stocking first aid medicine, water purifier and home safe drinking water kits at North Korean government facilities for dispatch.
