Flood Causes Power Disruption in NK

Heavy flooding in North Korea is also causing electricity disruptions.

A senior power department official told Pyongyang radio that boilers were cut off at thermal power plants, coal yards were flooded and power generation has been halted at the number one power plant in Tongcheon and the number six Bujon River plant due to the inundations.

He said telegraph poles are down and electric cords severed in many places, adding that electricity is completely out in Goksan County, North Hwanghae Province and Sinyang County, South Pyeongan Province as key power substations are submerged and facilities are damaged there.

Also in the capital Pyongyang, electricity, transportation and communications have reportedly been disrupted due to submerged power cables.
