NK Reaches out for International Aid

North Korea has appealed for flood relief from the international community including U.N.-affiliated organizations such as the World Food Program (WFP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

In a letter sent Tuesday to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Pyongyang said that it "welcomes willingness to assist," and asked the office to coordinate relief efforts.

OCHA is expected to call on the international community to raise funds to help the flood-ravaged communist country after consultation with other U.N. relief agencies.
