Seoul to Use 10.5 Bil. Won for Flood Aid to NK

The government on Wednesday earmarked ten-point-five billion won from its Inter-Korea Cooperation Fund for humanitarian aid to flood-stricken North Korea.

Of the amount, the Korea Red Cross will use seven-point-five billion won, and the rest will be provided for nongovernmental organizations that will send relief goods to the North.

The organizations will use the money to send bottled water, instant noodles, blankets and first-aid kits to the North Korean border city of Gaesong via an overland route.

Seoul also plans to provide Pyongyang with cement and other construction materials, along with equipment to support the North's restoration efforts.
