S-N Summit to Go in Line with 6-Way Talks: Minister

Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung said Wednesday that Seoul will work to realize a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula in line with progress in the six-party talks during the inter-Korean summit in early October.

In a meeting with China's Ambassador to Seoul, Ning Fukui, the minister said that the six-party talks and the inter-Korean summit both aim to establish a permanent peace on the peninsula.

Lee told the envoy that considering that the six-party talks will be held in September, the October summit will be able to play various roles depending on the result of the preceding multilateral negotiations.

Ambassador Ning replied that he expects the summit to help resolve the North Korean nuclear issue, while promoting peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.
