Seoul Provides NK Add'l 37.4 Bln Won in Flood Relief

The government will provide 37-point-four billion won worth of material and equipment for flood relief in North Korea in addition to emergency supply aid it has already pledged.

Announcing the decision in a briefing Friday, Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung said that the aid will ship from mid-September, estimating that transport and related costs would fall between five and ten billion won.

The decision was reached during a ministerial meeting earlier in the day chaired by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.

The new package consists of 100-thousand tons of cement, five thousand tons of iron rods, 80 trucks and 500 tons of light oil.

North Korea delivered its needs list on Tuesday while making the aid request.

Meanwhile, emergency supply aid worth some seven-point-five billion won began shipping Thursday.
