Five NK Escapees May be Sent to S. Korea

Vietnam is reportedly considering sending to South Korea five North Korean escapees who dashed into the Indonesian Embassy in Hanoi last week.

AFP quoted Vietnamese police as saying Thursday that the Vietnamese government is working closely with Indonesian and South Korean diplomats to resolve the issue and are considering sending the North Koreans to South Korea.

The report also quoted a South Korean Embassy official in Hanoi as saying that Seoul has conveyed to Vietnamese and Indonesian officials that it hopes the five asylum-seekers will be sent to a country they wish to go to in accordance with international practice.

The North Koreans --- one man and four women --- climbed the walls of the Indonesian embassy last Tuesday. Their identities were confirmed shortly after by the South Korean Embassy.
