The U.S. military in South Korea has lowered its force protection level a notch ... from Delta to Charlie.
The Defense Department issued Delta, the highest level of alert, Wednesday ... following terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon a day earlier.
The U.S. Forces in South Korea also downgraded their defense preparedness from Defcon-three to Defcon-four.
General Thomas Schwartz, commander of the U.S. Forces in South Korea, visited South Korean Defense Minister Kim Dong-shin Thursday and informed him of the downgrading of preparedness.
General Schwartz also thanked South Korea for its sympathy for the victims and families of the terrorist attacks and support the Korean government has offered.
He also said the U.S. Forces Command will work out anti-terrorism plans ...in consultation with the South Korean joint chiefs of staff.
On Wednesday, a U.S. military spokesman in Seoul said that no specific threats have been directed toward U.S. forces in South Korea, but they will remain vigilant and take all necessary actions to reduce risk to personnel and installations.
