South Korea has a monthly civil defense exercise on the 15th day of the month. But this month's exercise will be a little different from previous ones as the government plans special training on how to act in the event of a building collapse such as the one in New York.
The Government Administration and Home Affairs Ministry instructed civil defense authorities across the nation to include in the September exercises training on how to escape from buildings that are about to collapse.
The civil defense training is routinely conducted every month to improve civil preparedness against disasters.
Officials say next month's exercises will also include similar training to prepare for building collapse disasters.
