Family Reunions Postponed Until After Summit

Reunions of separated families in North and South Korea scheduled for early October will likely be postponed until after the inter-Korean summit.

South Korea's National Red Cross says the North Korean Red Cross Society has proposed to push back the 16th round of family reunions to October 17th to 22th.

The two Koreas had initially agreed to hold the reunions for six days from October first.

An official at Seoul's Unification Ministry said that Pyongyang requested the postponement citing preparations for the inter-Korean summit, adding Seoul will accept the proposal.

The South-North summit - the first since June 2000 - is scheduled to take place from October 2nd through the 4th.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross organizations of the two Koreas exchanged the lists of candidates for the reunions at the truce village of Panmunjeom.
