South Koreans queued Friday to pray for the victims of the terrorist attack in the United States at an altar set up in downtown Seoul.
A banner hanging over the altar read .... "We offer condolences to the victims of the U.S. terrorist attacks."
Koreans placed hundreds of white chrysanthemums along with sticks of incense.
Visitors of all ages paid their respects at the site in Kwanghwamun in the central part of the city.
Mourners also expressed condolences at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, placing flowers with messages of sorrow at the front gate and observing a moment of silence for the victims.
The South Korean government designated Friday a day of mourning for the American victims of the tragedy.
All government offices and schools hoisted black-draped flags and a siren rang out in the morning to signal the start of the minute's silence.
