'Peace Treaty, Normalized Ties Possible'

Former President Kim Dae-jung says that a peace treaty to end the Korean War and the normalization of relations between the United States and North Korea are possible during the term of U.S. President George W. Bush.

Delivering a speech to the National Press Club in Washington on Tuesday, Kim said that all negotiations on the North’s nuclear weapons programs will be completed and related issues will be settled before Bush leaves office.

The Nobel Peace Prize Laureate also said that the planned inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang will likely cover Seoul’s active support for successful six-party nuclear talks as well as inter-Korean economic cooperation and peace on the Korean Peninsula, which he said will also contribute to South Korean and U.S. national interests.
