The U.S. government is likely to offer additional aid to help North Korea recover from flooding caused by heavy rains this summer.

In an interview with Voice of America, a spokesman for international aid organization Mercy Corps voiced optimism about the possibility of additional U.S. aid for North Korean flood victims. But he added that it was uncertain whether the U.S. government would directly provide such aid.

The U.S.-based Mercy Corps last week delivered to North Korea drugs worth 830-thousand dollars, including 50-thousand dollars from the U.S. government. Washington also gave the North relief goods worth 50-thousand dollars through the humanitarian organization Samaritan’s Purse.
