Inner Geumgang Tours to Resume on Oct. 24

Tour programs for North Korea's scenic Inner Geumgang mountain resort will resume next Monday after a hiatus caused by flood damage.

Hyundai Asan, the South Korean operator of the Mount Geumgang tours, said Friday that it has finished restoring damaged roads and other facilities in the Inner Geumgang area with help from North Korea.

Tours to the area were suspended after local roads and bridges were damaged by torrential rains on August tenth.

Hyundai Asan and North Korea are known to have done their best to resume the tours in time for the Chuseok holiday, when many South Koreans are expected to visit the scenic resort.

The Inner Geumgang tours, which began in June last year, have attracted a daily average of 150 South Korean tourists. Beginning this July, North Korea lifted limits on the number of visits to meet rising demand.
