S-N Korean Leaders to Meet Twice on Wed.

President Roh Moo-hyun will head to Pyongyang Tuesday for summit talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, only the second inter-Korean summit ever.

The two are expected to hold two rounds of talks on the second day of the president's visit, in the morning and in the afternoon.

It is not yet known whether they will meet the day the South Korean delegation arrives, but a presidential aide said that such a meeting, if held, would most likely be only a brief welcoming session.

The main summit sessions are expected to take place with roughly five aides from each side attending.

The South Korean leader will tour at least three different sites during his visit, most of which are related to economic development. He will begin with the heavy industry section of the North's three-revolution exhibition hall, on the day of his arrival.

On his last day in the North, Mr. Roh will travel to Nampo to tour Pyeonghwa Motors, an inter-Korean joint venture which began auto production in 2002. He will also visit the West Sea floodgates at the mouth of the Daedong River.

The president is scheduled to attend the Arirang Festival, a mass gymnastics and artistic performance.

The first-ever inter-Korean summit came in 2000, in which former President Kim Dae-jung flew into Pyongyang and was greeted by Kim Jong-il. However, President Roh Moo-hyun will travel to the North by land, crossing the border on foot, becoming the first Korean leader to do so since the division of the peninsula.
