The White House has expressed its support of the ongoing inter-Korean summit.

Spokeswoman Dana Perino said in a news briefing Wednesday that the U.S. has always been supportive of inter-Korean dialogue, adding that Washington will closely watch the results of the high-level talks.

She also said the U.S. hopes the summit will contribute to peace and security, adding that ultimately the talks need to lead to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Perino said the White House will not make statements on the inter-Korean summit until it sees the results.
