‘Inter-Korean Talks Going Smoothly’

North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Choe Su-hon says there's no need for U.N. mediation between the two Koreas as they have maintained dialogue for years, citing the ongoing inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang.

While attending the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Choe told reporters at the North's U.N. mission that the summit would open a new era of peace, mutual prosperity and unification.

Meanwhile, on South Korean Ban Ki-moon’s appointment as U.N. secretary-general, Choe said that he was glad a fellow Korean held such an important position but stressed that Ban should act fairly in accordance with the U.N. Charter.
