PR Offers Presents to NK Leader

South Korean delegates to the inter-Korean summit presented gifts to North Korean leader Kim Jong-il on Wednesday.

President Roh Moo-hyun walked the North Korean leader past an array of presents displayed at the entrance of the Baekhwawon Guesthouse before their summit talks.

The presents included a traditional folding screen, teaware, dishes, tea products, and DVDs of popular South Korean films and television soap operas.

Among them, the DVDs are said to have been offered in consideration of Kim's deep interest in movies and dramas.

Mr. Roh told Kim that the gifts reflect his usual offerings to foreign heads of state, and the North Korean leader expressed his gratitude.

At the first inter-Korean summit in 2000, then-South Korean President Kim Dae-jung offered two dogs of a traditional Korean breed, a 60-inch television set capable of receiving South Korean broadcasts, and an electronic organ.
