Roh Visits Motor Plant, Floodgates in NK

President Roh Moo-hyun and First Lady Kwon Yang-suk visited an inter-Korean auto plant and the West Sea floodgates on Thursday, the last day of their summit visit to North Korea.

The president toured the Pyeonghwa Motors assembly plant in Nampo, where they met with company officials and saw how passenger cars and vans are built. He also tried out the driver seat of a car made from parts produced by South Korea's Ssangyong Motor.

After a 20-minute tour of the plant, he headed to the floodgates at the mouth of the Daedong River and watched a video on their construction. At the observatory, the first couple took a picture at the same spot where the late North Korean leader Kim Il-sung had also been photographed.

Before leaving, the South Korean president wrote in the guestbook "The people are great," using the North Korean word "inmin" for "the people."

A group of South Korean business leaders accompanied the president. Among them were Hyundai Motor's Chung Mong-koo, Hyundai Group's Hyun Chong-eun, LG's Koo Bon-moo, SK's Chey Tae-won, POSCO's Lee Ku-taek and Samsung Electronics' Yoon Jong-yong
