NK Taekwondo Team Visits US

A North Korean taekwondo demonstration team is visiting the United States for the first time ever.

The 20-member martial arts delegation arrived at the Los Angeles International Airport from Beijing on Friday.

The group will attend a welcoming ceremony organized by the Korean-American community Saturday. They will perform a special demonstration on CBS the next day.

A preparatory committee for the team’s U.S. visit said the tour was organized to help create an atmosphere of reconciliation and peace between the United States and North Korea. The committee said the North Koreans’ visit was simply about people all over the world practicing taekwondo.

The tour includes four additional performances through Oct. 14th in San Francisco, Atlanta, and the states of Iowa and Kentucky.
