Pres. Roh Seeks Tokyo's Support for Summit Declaration

President Roh Moo-hyun has briefed Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda on the result of his summit talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

In a ten-minute telephone call on Friday, the president also asked for Tokyo's active support for the South-North summit declaration.

A presidential spokesman said Mr. Roh explained that he and the North Korean leader shared the view that normalization of North Korea-Japan relations and changes in the international environment are necessary for peace on the Korean Peninsula and inter-Korean co-prosperity.

In response, the Japanese leader congratulated Roh on the successful conclusion of the inter-Korean summit talks, and expressed expectations that the joint declaration of the two Koreas will contribute to peace on the Korean Peninsula as well as in Northeast Asia.
