A proposed tour project to the North Korean side of Mount Baekdu will be modeled after the Mount Geumgang tourism program.

A Hyundai Group official says the tour program to the Korean Peninsula's tallest peak via a direct route will be carried out in the same way as the current Mount Geumgang tour in which travel agencies gather tourists in South Korea.

The official says a launch date will be known only after issues such as the tour course, amount of payment to Pyongyang, the readiness of the Samjiyeon Airport runway and the route to be taken are all hammered out.

Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun will soon visit the North with Hyundai Asan President Yoon Man-jun to discuss tours to Baekdu as well as the border city of Gaesong.
