Lee Wants to Meet NK Leader in Seoul

Lee Myung-bak, the presidential candidate of the main opposition Grand National Party, said Wednesday that the next inter-Korean summit should be held in South Korea.

In an interview with the all-news cable channel YTN, Lee said North Korean leader Kim Jong-il should come to the South for a summit next time under the principle of reciprocity.

Asked if he would meet with the North Korean leader if elected president, he responded positively, saying such a meeting would be helpful for establishing peace and trust between the two Koreas.

On the results of last week's inter-Korean summit, the presidential hopeful said the talks helped advance reconciliation and trust between the two Koreas. But he was quick to add that he was disappointed that the summit failed to discuss the North Korean nuclear and humanitarian issues.
