President Kim Dae-jung is the recipient of this year's world political leader prize.
The prize is awarded by the New York-based Appeal of Conscience. The organization cited Kim's distinguished contribution to freedom, democracy, and peace.
The prize is given every year to those politicians who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of democracy, improvement of human rights, and the promotion of religious freedom.
Foreign Minister Han Seung-soo will receive the prize on behalf of the president in a ceremony slated for Monday in New York.
