A U.S.-based medical aid organization is working with North Korean officials to arrange a visit to the United States by doctors from the communist country.

Medical Teams International official Bill Essig told Radio Free Asia in a telephone interview Friday that he had spoken with North Korean health officials on the possibility of such a visit. The proposed study tour would allow North Korean doctors to see how American hospitals are managed and use medical equipment.

Essig, who recently returned from North Korea, also said that Pyongyang thanked him for the million dollars' worth of drugs and supplies donated by his organization and asked for additional aid.
