Roh Urges Basic Plans to Implement Summit Accords

President Roh Moo-hyun says drawing a comprehensive plan is most important to implement the agreements reached in the second inter-Korean summit.

The president made the remarks Friday while attending the first meeting of a committee in charge of implementing the accords.

Mr. Roh said that the basic inter-Korean framework must be set up to allow the next government to take the next step and carry out the specifics of the plans.

He also said that some issues have already been addressed in the 1992 South-North Basic Agreement but those related to economic cooperation require a new comprehensive road map.

The president called on the government to map out an economic cooperation strategy and try to reach agreement on necessary areas in next month's talks between prime ministers and defense chiefs of the two Koreas.
