Former Abductees File Complaint with UN Body

South Koreans who returned after being abducted by North Korea have filed a complaint against the communist country with the United Nations Human Rights Council.

In the complaint, Lee Jae-keun and four others claimed North Korea violated the UN agency’s international rules on civil and political rights.

They said they have decided to take the action as the Seoul government is not making active efforts to improve the human rights situation in the North, putting more emphasis on political and economic engagement with Pyongyang.

The UN body will deliberate the complaint before deciding whether to recommend the North improve its human rights conditions.
