President Kim Dae-jung stressed the importance of anti-terrorism measures for international events such as next year's FIFA World Cup and the Busan Asian Games.
Pres. Kim said at a meeting at Chong Wa Dae that the government should reinforce its counter-terrorism abilities under close cooperation with allied nations and strengthen its surveillance and safety management capabilities for major facilities.
Kim stressed that the government should prepare for possible terrorism during the 2002 World Cup tournament, to be jointly held in South Korea and Japan, as it could become a target for terrorists if an international conflict escalates in the wake of the attacks on the United States.
