Seoul Seeks Regular Separated Family Reunions

South Korea will hold regular reunions of Korean families divided by the inter-Korean border, as a permanent reunion center will be completed in March at North Korea's Mount Kumgang resort.

A Seoul official said that once the center is built, both Koreas will discuss holding reunions every month and allow those who have reunited previously to meet again on a weekly basis.

Only small groups of families are allowed to be reunited a few times a year on a irregular basis. There is also no opportunity for repeated reunions.

The official, however, said it is uncertain whether North Korea will accept the proposal for regular reunions because of the time and efforts to hold such events involved.
