Two Koreas Discuss Energy Aid

Inter-Korean working-level talks have opened on South Korea’s provision of economic and energy aid to the North under the February 13th six-way nuclear accord.

During the two-day meeting at Mount Geumgang resort, the two sides will discuss power equipment to be provided by the South, as well as related details on its delivery, in preparation for a six-party working group to meet in Seoul at the end of the month.

Deputy chief nuclear negotiator Lim Sung-nam leads Seoul’s delegation to the two-day meeting. Pyongyang’s delegation is led by officials from its Foreign Ministry and other related ministries.

South Korea, the United States, China and Russia agreed to provide 450-thousand tons of heavy fuel oil in addition to energy aid equivalent to 500-thousand tons of heavy fuel oil.
