South Korean President Kim Dae-jung received the Appeal of Conscience Foundation (ACF) World Statesman Award Monday.
The ACF, which has worked on behalf of religious freedom and human rights throughout the world since its foundation in 1965, delivered the award to Han Seung-soo, South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade in place of Kim at the award ceremony held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, in downtown New York.
Pres. Kim said in an acceptance speech read by Han that he "strongly condemns all terrorist activities and pledges his full support for any and all endeavors to free the world of this menace," extending his profound condolences and sympathy to the citizens of the United States for the terrorist attacks.
Kim asked the world for continued support in establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula, adding that the Sunshine Policy is beneficial not only to South and North Korea but also to many other countries, including the United States as well as neighboring countries such as Japan, China and Russia.
