'Peace Talks Should Lead to Formal End of Korean War'

Foreign Minister Song Min-soon said Wednesday that declaring a formal end to the Korean War requires various measures and political, military and legal conditions.

He told a regular news briefing that as only a truce exists between the two Koreas, they need to formally end the war before concluding a permanent peace treaty.

Song said that such a declaration could come only after discussing how to keep the peace on the Korean Peninsula.

He also said that such discussions can begin when meaningful progress is made in North Korea's denuclearization, adding that "meaningful progress" should be determined by all parties concerned.
