European lawmakers returning from North Korea say the communist state has expressed a strong desire for economic development and modernization.

A delegation of European Parliament members in charge of Korean Peninsula affairs made a two-day visit to Pyongyang on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In response, European representatives stressed the need for solid telecommunication and financial infrastructure, as well as the resolution of the nuclear issue.

According to the delegates, Pyongyang promised to fully implement a series of six-party denuclearization agreements.

The chief of the European delegation gave a briefing on his group's visit at a news conference Monday in Seoul.
