Subsidies to USFK totals 1 trillion won

South Korea spent approximately one trillion won annually from 1997 to 1999 in direct and indirect subsidies for United States Forces in South Korea. That's according to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade report submitted for annual parliamentary inspection.
The report said the government granted U.S. forces more than seven hundred million dollars in direct subsidies and in waived rents, fees, and taxes.
Direct subsidies in 1999 totaled three hundred-24 million dollars while indirect subsidies amounted to three hundred-97 million dollars.
