Economic bodies call for consumption

Written: 2001-09-26 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

The nation's five economic organizations have issued an appeal for the people to buy goods manufactured by small and medium sized companies.
The appeal came Wednesday in a resolution adopted by the Federation of Korean Industries, the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Korea International Trade Association, the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business, and the Korea Employers Federation.
The resolution urged the government to come up with an economic stimulus package. They also voiced concern that chilled consumer sentiment in the United States following the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington is likely to hurt the nation's exports and shrinking consumption could delay economic recovery.
The resolution also said that large firms will commit themselves to working with small firms in producing competitive export goods and finding niche markets overseas.
