A South Korean team will conduct an inspection of North Korea's Mount Baekdu area in the middle of this month to prepare for tours that will start in May next year.

The tours' organizer Hyundai Asan says the team will survey the scenic North Korean resort as a follow up to the parent Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jung-eun's recent inspection.

The team will comprise government officials and Hyundai Asan staff.

A company spokesman said Pyongyang has promised full support and that the inspection will cover every corner of the mountain even if in bad weather.

Officials from the South Korean Transportation Ministry are expected to take part in inspections of the facilities at the North’s Samjiyeon Airport and to discuss the operation of direct flights from South Korea to the North Korean mountain.
