The budget for implementing the accords reached at the recent inter-Korean summit has been set at almost 231 billion won.
The National Assembly’s Unification, Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee passed Tuesday a budget of one-point-three trillion won for inter-Korean cooperation which includes costs for summit implementation.
The budget will be finalized once it passes the parliamentary budget committee and wins approval during a plenary session of the National Assembly.
The government designated eleven of the points agreed upon during the recent inter-Korean summit as projects requiring budgetary outlays. They consist mainly of initial research costs for the planned West Sea peace zone and for building a special economic zone around the North Korean port of Haeju.
A Unification Ministry official said the budget was drafted at minimal cost and is thus expected to sail through the National Assembly.
