South Korea's Kim Mi-hyun has nearly matched the course record, firing a 7-under-par 65 to take a two-stroke lead after the opening round of the AFLAC Champions LPGA event.
Kim hit every green at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Alabama as she seeks her first win after three runner-up finishes this year.
Former champion Dottie Pepper was one shot off the lead before bogeying the 18th hole to cap a 67. Defending champion Karrie Webb of Australia, Charlotta Sorenstam of Sweden and Grace Park of Korea are tied for third after 3-under 69s.
The 750-thousand dollar AFLAC Champions is the first of six limited-field events. Only active LPGA Hall of Famers and tournament winners from the past three seasons were invited to this event.
Kim is seventh on the money list with nearly 720-thousand dollars.
The field does not include money leader Annika Sorenstam, who also tops the LPGA with six wins.
