First Steps Taken For SK Church-funded Hospital in P'yang

The nation's largest church has sent materials and goods to North Korea for the building of a large-scale hospital in Pyongyang.

The Yoido Full Gospel Church, which is spearheading construction of a coronary disease center in the North Korean capital, sent 23 truckloads of construction material and equipment Tuesday to the Gaesong Industrial Complex.

The items will be received by the Choson Christ Federation and then sent to the construction site in Pyongyang.

The 260-bed hospital, which will be named after the church's founder, Reverend David Yonggi Cho, is expected to stand eight stories tall. The facility will cost roughly 20-billion won to build and open in 2010.

The Seoul-based church, which boasts the largest congregation in the world, said North Korea requested the hospital be named after Reverend Cho.
