Day 2 of Inter-Korean PM Talks Opens

The two Koreas met for a second day of their prime ministers’ talks Thursday in Seoul. They spent the day fine-tuning a joint statement to implement the accords signed at the October inter-Korean summit.

A government official says the two sides have agreed that a South Korean delegation will visit the North’s Haeju area, where they are planning to build a special economic zone.

The two sides also agreed to begin regular train service on the cross-border Gyeongui Railway by the end of this year to transport materials to the Gaesong Industrial Complex.

However, the two sides are still struggling to find common ground on the issues of transit, communication, and customs for the joint South-North industrial park.

After the morning session, the North Korean delegation toured the National Museum of Korea. North Korean Premier Kim Yong-il is expected to meet President Roh Moo-hyun on Friday.
