Koreas to Conclude Prime Ministerial Talks Friday

The two Koreas will issue a joint statement on Friday, the last day of the first round of inter-Korean prime ministerial talks.

In the statement, the two Koreas will unveil the agreements they have reached during the past three days in Seoul, including an agreement to begin regular freight train service on the cross-border Gyeongui Railway between South Korea's Munsan and North Korea's Bongdong from the second week of December.

The two sides have also agreed to launch a joint body to establish a special West Sea zone for peace and cooperation, and to dispatch a South Korean delegation to the North’s Haeju area, where the Koreas are planning to build a special economic zone.

The statement will also include an agreement on launching a high-level joint committee on economic cooperation early next month.

The North’s delegation to the first prime ministerial talks will visit the presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae and attend a luncheon hosted by President Roh Moo-hyun on Friday. The delegation is expected to convey a verbal message from North Korean leader Kim Jong-il to Roh.
