PMs of Two Koreas Sign Joint Statement

Prime ministers of South and North Korea signed a joint statement Friday, wrapping up three days of talks in Seoul.

At the signing ceremony, North Korean Premier Kim Yong-il urged strong commitment to agreements reached at the prime ministerial talks, comparing them to a "precious baby."

Meanwhile, South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo called the agreements "the first button" in the implementation of the historic accords signed at the inter-Korean summit in October. He also expressed hope that this week's agreement will pave the way for coprosperity and coexistence of the two Koreas.

The North Korean delegation left for Pyongyang on Friday afternoon after attending a luncheon hosted by President Roh Moo-hyun.
