A South Korean firm operating tours in North Korea said Monday it plans to add the North Korean capital to the itinerary for planned tours to Mount Baekdu.

Hyundai Asan President Yoon Man-joon told reporters his company has already asked South and North Korean authorities to include Pyongyang on tours to Mount Baekdu.

Yoon said that as the two Koreas have agreed to direct flights from Seoul to the mountain, both sides share the view that Pyongyang could be included on a related tour program. He cautioned, however, that it would take time to do so.

He said that around 300 South Korean tourists a day are expected on tours of Gaesong that are slated to start December fifth. The Hyundai official added that his company will work with North Korean authorities to allow South Koreans to use personal vehicles and mobile phones in the North.
