Two Koreas to Operate Railway Cargo Service

The two Koreas will operate daily cross-border railway cargo service starting on December eleventh.

But the service linking South Korea’s Munsan and North Korea’s Bongdong on the Gyeongui Railway will not be provided on weekends.

The freight train will deliver materials and equipment from the South to an inter-Korean industrial complex in the North Korean city of Gaesong.

The two Koreas reached the agreement at their first working-level talks on railway cooperation, which started Tuesday and ended Thursday.

The two sides will form a joint committee on railway operation, which will hold its first meeting December first in Gaesong.

A team of officials will visit the North from December 12th to 18th for joint on-site inspections of a North Korean railway slated for repair. The repair work will be carried out in accordance with agreements reached at last month's inter-Korean summit.
