The nation's expressways and main roads have seen serious traffic jams on Wednesday afternoon although the traffic conditions during the morning of the third day of the three Chusok holidays seemed to have improved temporarily.
The time for a passenger car to travel from Pusan to Seoul was 7 hours and 10 minutes, which normally takes four hours and 20 minutes.
An official from the Korean Road Corporation said that the traffic on major expressways started to become congested at around 10 o'clock in the morning and cars were bumper to bumper on some sections during the afternoon.
The official said more than 280,000 cars were expected to return to Seoul on Wednesday alone, the last day of the Chusok holiday.
